Volunteer

A week across a whole city runs on people.

Seven days of cafés, the Coffee Lab, sessions and invited producers in the city. Volunteers help visitors find their way through all of it, and help each part start on time.

Volunteering · 01

Why it takes people.

The Week doesn't happen in one venue. It happens in cafés across the city, in the Coffee Lab, in session rooms and on the way between them for the invited producers. Someone arriving for the first time needs a person to ask; a session needs someone at the door and someone watching the clock.

When a volunteer does it well, hardly anyone notices. That's the point.

Volunteering · 02

Five roles, five ways to help.

These are examples of what's needed. The final list of roles is confirmed with the shifts.

Volunteering · 03

Coffee knowledge helps. It isn't required.

If you work in coffee, that experience is useful, especially in the Coffee Lab. But most roles ask for something else: being good with people, pointing someone the right way, being on time, speaking more than one language. We train you in what your role needs.

What volunteers aren't asked to do

This is the work of paid staff and specialists:

  • Selling sponsorships
  • Teaching technical coffee
  • Operating equipment you don't know

If something needs a specialist, your job is to call one, not to fix it.

Volunteering · 04

What to expect if you're confirmed.

Your role and shifts are confirmed in writing before the week. Until then, nothing is assigned.

The application, short.

Volunteer sign-ups open soon. For now the form can be read, not sent.

Applying doesn't guarantee a place. We read every application, and a place is only confirmed in writing.

How we use your information

  • Only to organise volunteering for this edition: reading your application, assigning roles and shifts, and writing to you.
  • Anything you tell us about accessibility is used only to arrange that support, and seen only by whoever coordinates it.
  • We don't share it with sponsors or cafés, and we don't use it to send you marketing.
  • You can ask us to correct or delete it by writing to hola@semanadecafedeespecialidad.mx.
