Two editions a year · the first in Mexico City

Semana de Café

How it works

Walking the week is free. Here's how.

  1. 1Go to the cafésFrom April 26 to May 2, every participating café pours coffee from the same region. You walk in like at any café: no ticket.
  2. 2Collect stampsYour pass is free and carries a number. Each café stamps it when you visit. The printed Field Guide, with maps and café cards, is sold separately.
  3. 3Register for sessionsTalks are free; cuppings and workshops cost money. Every session, free or paid, needs registration to get in.

The week

For seven days the city pours one region's coffee, and the people who grew it are here.

Every participating café pours a lot from the edition's region, so you meet the same origin at every bar, in the talks, at the Coffee Lab and in the guide. One origin is the point: a week is long enough to learn one region well, taste how different cafés read it, and meet the people who grow it.

  • 7days
  • 20cafés
  • 10lots
  • 10farms
  • 1origin

Each lot is one coffee kept separate by plot, variety or process, so a farm can send more than one.

Beyond the bar

What happens beyond your cup.

You don't need any of this to enjoy the week, but it's why that coffee is in your cup. While you walk the cafés, the region's producers spend the week working with the shops that pour their coffee and the people who roast and buy it.

The longer plan
  1. Seats to bookAt the roasteryEach producer roasts their coffee with the roaster who buys it. A few seats are open to you.
  2. Open all weekAt the Coffee LabWatch the experiments and ask anything.
  3. Trade onlyBehind closed doorsMeetings with buyers, a round table on what worked on the farm, and a morning just for producers on pricing and selling.

Ricardo Cortés Nava

“My father sold cherry to the middleman. It took me nine years to put my own name on the bag.”

Ricardo took over his father's farm in 2014, when leaf rust had wiped out two thirds of the region's production and half his neighbors had already switched out of coffee.
